Activists blast Gap Inc. for using sweatshop labor
End to human-rights abuses urged
THE ACTIVIST GROUP Global Exchange held a demonstration last Saturday outside the Gap store downtown, accusing the giant retailer of producing its clothes in sweatshops. Human-rights and environmental activists say the Gap uses sweatshop labor on the island of Saipan and other countries in which it does business. The activists also are encouraging consumers to call Gap chairman Don Fisher to urge him to pay workers a living wage and treat them with dignity.
