SITUATION ESCALATING IN ALBION

The Fisher family's logging company, Mendocino Redwood (MRC), has placed a
full-time Security Guard at the site of the tree-sit, a small grove of giant
redwoods that separates a road slide from the river below. When the Guard
saw activists hanging a banner that reads SLIDES KILL FISH across the slide
area, something snapped: He lunged at them--fracturing the hand of one
activist; then took out a knife and began slashing at the climber's harness; as the climber ascended, the guard clung to him was lifted off the ground. The guard finally dropped to the ground and began struggling over the hoist rope--he then abruptly came to his senses.
MRC later said that the guard's actions were 'inappropriate,' but has been unresponsive to activists' request for a 'hands-off' policy in the woods. Sandy Dean and John Fisher--Fisher family frontmen for the logging operation--also continue to ignore pleas from activists, including a registered geologist, and phone calls from the public asking them to STOP CUTTING NEAR SLIDE AREAS. It's bad enough that they're taking out the last decent wildlife habitat in the Albion--the LEAST they can do is NOT take it out near slide areas that threaten the river below!

1. RALLY IN MENDOCINO, 12 Noon, Wed, May 26. The ALBION NATION is sponsoring a rally with music and pageantry. Shuttles will take people from the Albion post office parking lot to the site of the rally (J Road. Rally participants can decide if they want to join in a march to the site of the tree-sit after the rally. For more info, call 707-937-5703.
2. SHAME JOHN FISHER in SF. Also starting Weds, for those who cannot
get away, we will be keeping IRREGULAR HOUR-LONG VIGILS at 1 MARITIME PLAZA,
where John Fisher manages the Fisher family investments on the 14th floor.
We are painting another one-person banner that reads SHAME ON YOU, JOHN FISHER: SLIDES KILL FISH! and printing up some special small leaflets for the action. One or two-person teams will appear every other day for an hour, holding the banner. IF YOU CAN VOLUNTEER AN HOUR FOR THIS ACTION, PLEASE CALL ME AT 415-731-7924.
3. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD. Call Sandy Dean at 707-485-8731 or John Fisher
at 415-392-3600 or 415-288-0549 (Pisces, Inc.) and loudly protest the Fisher
family's destruction of the Albion River watershed! Tell them that they
should at least stop logging near slide areas! Tell them that you support
the tree sit and they should clean up their act!
