TRO on Logging Greenwood Creek Old Growth!!!
*******************************************************
Superior Court Judge Frank Petersen issued a Temporary Restraining Order
against logging Greenwood Creek old growth (THP 1-95-315, Amendment 10)
pending a preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for July 19.
THREE CHEERS FOR JUDGE PETERSEN FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING!!!!
AND FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS WORKED TO SAVE THESE TREES!!!
Bi-Coastal Anniversary Demos Still On!!!
*********************************************
SF and NYC Demos scheduled for 12 noon, Thurs, July 1 are still on! These
demos protest a year of Fisher family liquidation logging in Mendocino
County! The Greenwood Creek old-growth logging plan is just one of over 140
Fisher high-impact logging plans, and the Fisher logging company, MRC, is
still fighting tooth and nail to log that old growth! (Btw, on a radio
interview yesterday, Mon, June 28, MRC chief forester Mike Jani publicly
admitted that the plan logs old growth--they had been denying that these
trees are old-growth trees.) SO LET'S SHOW OUR STRENGTH:
SF DEMO. Gap at Market and Powell, 12 noon, Thurs, July 1.
NYC DEMO. Gap at 54th and 5th Ave, 12 noon, Thurs, July 1.
Mendo Demo Moved to 1 PM, July 4, Mendocino Village!
***************************************************************
The Mendocino 4th of July Parade attracts 10,000 tourists and residents, so
now that we have the TRO, we thought it wise to reshedule the Mendo demo to
co-oincide with it! We will be a HUGE PRESENCE in the parade!!! After the
parade, RALLY in Friendship Park to the music of FRIDA'S CIRCUS!!! COME ONE
AND ALL: It's going to be a super-fun, empowering, expression of LOVE FOR
THE FOREST!
***Contact Norman to work on--or be on--our Parade FLOAT: 707-877-3551. Pick
up leaflets, banners, and placards at 12:30 at Zia's, behind Papabird's on
Albion Street.***
Celebrate Internat'l Forest Interdependence Day!
******************************************************
Julia Butterfly and Redwood Mary invite the world to celebrate the first
International Forest Interdependence Day by planting a tree in solidarity
with forest defenders around the world, especially the Greenbelt Movement in
Kenya, members of which have been brutalized by the government for their
efforts for the forest. Visit the Plight of the Redwoods Tour website for
the press release detailing this wonderful event!
