Union of Concerned Santas Shut Down Old Navy Flagship, SF!!!!
***********************************************************************
Did the WTO Protests Wear Us Out?! NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!!! Just the opposite:

Thursday, December 23, members of the Union of Concerned Santas LOCKED DOWN
at the main entrance of the Gap Fishers' Old Navy Flagship Store in SF, issuing the following statement: "Fishers of Gap, Inc: Extinguishing Endangered Species and Exploiting Desperate People Just Isn't in the Xmas Spirit! Lumps of Coal Are Too Good for You! We Advocate a Boycott of Gap, Banana Republic, & Old Navy--and will deliver no gifts purchased from these stores!!!!"

Dressed in their Sunday-best Santa Suits, SIX SANTAS and an ANGEL linked by
festive "tootsie-rolls" (tar and chicken-wire-covered PVC pipe decorated
with bows, glitter, and stars), u-locks, chains, and cables, BAFFLED the
SFPD while ENTERTAINING WOULD-BE SHOPPERS and the MEDIA with customized
Christmas CAROLS (e.g., "Jingle Bells, the Gap sells, clothes made in
Saipan, You pee once a day, when the bosses say, or else you get no pay,
hey!!!...").

Meanwhile, the SFPD menacingly shook their PEPPER-SPRAY cannisters, but ultimately realized how bad it would look to perpetrate this kind of violence on Santa two days before Xmas.

Once they felt their message was heard, the SINGING SANTAS cooperated fully
with police--who, despite their noisy, sparking electric saws, jaws of life,
and other frightening paraphernalia, could not get through the pipe--and
released themselves, SHOUTING TRIUMPHANTLY with raised, handcuffed fists:
"Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Corporate Greed Has Got to Go!!!" to the CHEERING CROWD
as they marched into the PADDY WAGONS (see page A-9 of Dec 23's evening SF
Examiner; Channel 7, Channel 2, and KPFA also covered this sweet event)!!!

But the saga did not end there... the SFPD decided to play HARD-BALL with
the SANTAS, charging them all with FELONIES, making them substitute their
beloved red Santa gear for the despised DAY-GLO ORANGE COUNTY ISSUE, and
subjecting them to the SICK, INSTITUTIONALIZED DEHUMANIZATION that is the
prison system.

However, thanks to the FORCES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS (HUGE HUGS to JULIETTE,
LYDIA, LAWYERS KIM & RIVA, chief Assistant D.A. INGLEHARD, LEONARD, and
EVERYONE WHO CALLED THE D.A.'S OFFICE!!!!), the Santas did not have to stay
in the slammer over Xmas (gifts were delivered on Xmas Eve as usual!!!!),
the felony charges were dropped, and the last Santa was released around 10
PM, after 12 GRUELING HOURS in the COUNTY JAIL!!!!

Upon leaving the facility, the indefatigable & intrepid SANTAS CHANTED at
the top of their lungs: NO MORE JAILS! TEAR THEM DOWN! BRICK BY BRICK! TO
THE GROUND!

HATS OFF TO ACTIVIST SANTAS & ACTIVIST ELVES (9 of whom were arrested)!!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS SACRIFICE ON BEHALF OF OUR EXPLOITED PLANET & PEOPLE!!!!

***WHAT A HIGH-SPIRITED, LOVING, & RIGHTEOUS ACTION!!!*** ...that topped a year of GREAT ACTIONS and DOGGED PRESSURE on the Fishers of Gap, Inc. and other Corporate Exploiters to end their heartless and destructive environmental and labor practices!!!!!!

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE, WHO MADE AN EFFORT DURING THE PAST YEAR, GREAT OR SMALL, FOR THE ENVIRONMENT & HUMAN DECENCY!!!

"Santa Seven" to Demo Hall of Justice: NO MORE JAILS!
****************************************************************
Monday, Dec 27, ~10:00 AM, Hall of Justice, SF. With the taste of the
dehumanizing prison experience still in their mouths and the knowledge
that the Prison-Industrial Complex primarily targets, oppresses, and
exploits people of color, the SANTA SEVEN will stage a demo outside the Hall
of Justice at 850 Bryant Street immediately following their court appearance
at 9 AM, ROOM 201.

Board of Forestry Hearing/ACTION: A Taste of Things to Come!!!
************************************************************************
9:00 AM ON JANUARY 12, 2000, Sacramento.  Resources Building, 1416 9th
Street. The Board of Forestry will meet "To Consider a Petition from Richard
Gienger, et al.,  Requesting the Board to Adopt Emergency Regulations for
Protection of Old Growth..." according to their agenda which just came out
today (12/23)."

There is too little time to organize a MASS PROTEST for this event.
However, we are planning a DRAMATIC HEARING & RALLY, featuring the first public appearance of JULIA BUTTERFLY since she descended from Luna, that will most definitely give GRAY DAVIS & CO. A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME--the message? WE, THE PEOPLE, ARE RECLAIMING OUR GOVERNMENT & OUR PUBLIC TRUST RESOURCES FROM THE CORPORATIONS!!! EITHER START DOING YOUR JOB, OR STEP ASIDE!!!!!

Please Contact me if you want to START THE NEW MILLENIUM RIGHT and be part
of this event!!!!

***********************************************
May we see the Earth and All Its People treated with compassion in the
coming Millenium--and all the prisons torn down to the ground!!!!

LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!

LOVE! LOVE!! LOVE to everyone in this great activist family!!!
