June 3 Gap Demo: Report Back!
************************************
Last Saturday's demo in San Francisco was nothing short of a JOYFUL,
POWERFUL ROMP -- Yes, SRBG & Friends ROMPED with our OLD-GROWTH
STUMP (courtesy of the Gap Fishers), 12 Dancing Redwood Trees, the SRBG
Marching Band, and more, from the Gap flagship to Old Navy; then right up
the middle of GRANT STREET to Banana Republic--and the BBC, KRON, BAY TV,
KPFA, Pirate Radio, et al, ROMPED with us!!! We performed our OUTRAGEOUS
MUSICAL SKIT, "A Fisher Family Picnic," at every stop!  Check out
http://home.pacbell.net/zilber/gap.htm for great stills of this action (and
more will be posted soon at our web site: www.gapsucks.org).

****The BBC coverage of the issues and this event (see URL above) will
surely escalate the pressure on the Gap Fishers by an order of
magnitude!!!****

June 4  Gap Demo, Boston: "We'd Rather Wear Nothing...!"
*****************************************************************
A New Gaptivist High Schools Group Is Forming in the Boston Area!!! Contact
Dan Denvir, Campus Action Network (781) 891 0468 or unity11@hotmail.com. On
Sunday, June 4, this group did a "We'd Rather Wear Nothing Than Wear Gap!"
Action!  From their press release:

"High school students, alongside labor, environmental and human rights
activists will take to the streets to target the GAP clothing store on
Brattle Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge on June 4th, at 1 P.M. Students
will strip off sweatshop-made GAP clothing to denounce GAP’s use of
sweatshop labor. “I’d rather go naked than wear GAP clothes made in
sweatshops,” says Erika Snyder, a local high school student. The
demonstration is part of a nation-wide day of action to call attention to
the company’s horrendous record on labor rights and the environment.  Music,
street theatre, drumming and speakers will be part of the impromptu strip
show, expected to draw 200 demonstrators."

****THREE CHEERS FOR BOSTON GAPTIVISTS!!!!*****

June 7--ALERT: U'WA Defense Strategy Meeting!
*******************************************************
TONIGHT at 7 PM!!! Bay Area Meeting for the U'wa People at the Rainforest
Action Network Office, 221 Pine Street, Suite 500 (between Sansome and
Battery), Financial District, Downtown SF, Montgomery BART.

From RAN: "Please gather with local groups (Global Exchange, GreenAction,
Project Underground, Rainforest Action Network) to talk about what we can do
in the Bay area to support the U'wa people. On May 15th an injunction which
had suspended Occidental Petroleum's project on U'wa ancestral territory was
overturned, giving Oxy the green light to once again move forward with their
project. Solidarity actions are being planned at locations around the
country... We too need to demonstrate our support for the U'wa struggle...
...Come join us to share ideas, creativity and energy to help the U'wa as we
continue to gear up for the summer of action..." More info: Patrick or
Lauren at RAN, 415 398-4404,  organize@ran.org or lsullivan@ran.org

******************************************************
The Hole in Headwaters is the huge (656 football fields) plan (#520) in the

Bare Bones Sample Message:

Governor Davis,
Please stop MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber's plans to log THP 520, the "Hole in The
Headwaters". This extreme logging plan, which lies entirely within the
Preserve's boundaries, will clearcut a forested area the size of 656
football fields!
