With the Republican National Convention starting this Monday and the
Democratic National Convention starting two weeks later, we are in an
ORGANIZING FRENZY! Here are some highlights in a boundless list of People

ALA Forest Roadshow Teach-in!!! (Join Us! Table!)

Wednesday, August 2. Come to the American Lands Alliance Forest Roadshow
Teach-in on its way to the DNC in L.A.!!! Join David Brower, Martin Litton,
Tom Hayden (invited), and a broad coalition of forest activist groups for a
discussion on forests, the Democrats, and the role of forest activists at
the DNC (Aug 14-17). ***Find out why we must wrest control of public policy
from the corporations--the survival of the planet is in the balance!*** 5:30

noon), Santa Monica Pier Anti-fundraiser Party (8/13 TBA).
-Aug 14. U'wa actions (TBA), Forest Protection Coalition Rally with Julia
Butterfly (noon), Corporate Tour of Shame (2 PM), Human Need Not Corporate

-Aug 15--17. We are planning to crash a series of fundraisers with our bed
on wheels, and a skit we've made up for Gore, Bush, and all their mutual
bedfellows! We also intend to participate in diverse actions supporting
Universal Health Care, Peace on Earth and in Space, and other issues
important to members of the AG.

ORGANIZE IN YOUR COMMUNITY FOR
THE NATIONAL FOREST PROTECTION DAY
Join with forest activists in Los Angeles and across the country in a
day dedicated to telling our elected officials that our forests need to
be protected, that it is their job to protect forests and that forest
advocates will hold them accountable for their forest protection
efforts!
Forest activists have declared Monday, August 14, the first day of the
DNC, a National Forest Protection Day. In Los Angeles, we will join with
thousands of others in a march for "Human Needs, Not Corporate Greed." We
will rally (12 noon--Julia Butterfly is scheduled to speak), carry banners,
speak with press, engage in direct action, educate each other to make the
forest protection message heard. You can ensure that the message reaches
beyond Los Angeles and directly to your own elected officials by holding a
forest protection event in your own community. Some ideas for events
include:
Hold a forest protection march and rally
Hold a teach-in on forests and the 2000 elections
Hold a forest protection press conference
Hold a protest at a local Gore, Bush, DNC or RNC headquarters
Engage in direct action
Meet with local elected officials

From Joyce Eden: Tell our legislators and the Park Service that
WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY MORE DEVELOPMENT IN YOSEMITE
Massive multimillion dollar developments are planned by the Park Service
for Yosemite commencing in Jan 2001. More motel buildings, restaurants,
additional lanes and roads, parking lots sprawling into new areas of
Yosemite, huge increases in the numbers of diesel buses, more concessions,
more degradation of the ecosystem. Send comments asking Park Service to
rescind the current plans and put out a new Merced River Plan and a new
Yosemite Valley Plan that truly protects the River and Yosemite Valley to
